This was the first time I've tried an Exodus family holiday and it was just fantastic.  As with other "adult" trips, the group were like minded individuals, the trip was amazing and we came home raving about it!!

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

Seeing the pyramids for the first time, so close to our hotel(!), was the first amazing experience.

Visiting the valley of the kings was also incredible, the engineering required for these and the pyramids defy belief.

The trip to the Tutenkamen museum on the last day was full of just unbelievable treasures.  The whole trip was filled with so many memorable occasions, there wasn't a day without an exceptional highlight!

What did you think of your group leader?

Kahled made the trip for us.

He was exceptionably knowledgeable but explained things in a way the children could understand and kept them entertained. He was always helpful and flexible to fit with what we as a group wanted to do.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Although there was trouble in Egypt last year and the elections were not far off we didn't experience any problems at all so now is a good time to visit as the attractions are not as crowded as usual.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
A really interesting, educational and fun packed trip.  Go for it!!

We really enjoyed this holiday. It was the teenage departure and there was a good mix of ages. The trip was organised well so that there was a good balance between sight-seeing and relaxation. This enabled the young people to spend time in the pool in the afternoon. The hotels were of a higher standard than I was expecting. The Cairo hotel was so peaceful with a lovely pool and lovely tented areas to have drinks in the evening. The Luxor hotel had a balcony and we looked out over the hotel gardens, pool and river Nile, the sunset over the Nile was beautiful. The hotel in El Gouna was also very good in a great location.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?

So many it's hard to choose. The pyramids were amazing and it was great to go inside one and I loved the Valley of the Kings. The sleeper train to Luxor was a novelty as I hadn't slept on a train before (actually I didn't really sleep on this one). The Cairo museum was incredible and I really want to go back. Karnak Temple was amazing and I enjoyed the Sound and Light show at Karnak.

This trip has made me want to explore more of Egypt.

What did you think of your group leader?
He was very pleasant and particularly good with the teenagers. He seemed to know quite a lot and he took great care of us.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

If you're considering this trip I would highly recommend it.

There are quite a few extras to pay for which are in the trip notes however the tipping seems quite excessive.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Due to the poor conditions that the Eygptians keep their animals I think the camel ride and the donkey ride should cease to be part of the agenda until conditions greatly improve. By agreeing to ride this animals we are condoning the appalling conditions that they live in.

We felt that we were looked after in every way possible by our local guide Onsey.  His knowledge  of history and sense of humour made our trip light hearted and such a success.  We loved Egypt mainly because how it was presented to us.  We were also extremely lucky to be travelling with such great fellow travellers, another family who we met for the first time, but being as adventerous, we all got on so well.  I really would recommend other families to spend their Christmas there.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Dancing around the campfire on the banks of the River Nile on Christmas night, singing to the stars, and making our wishes for the New Year.
What did you think of your group leader?

Onsey was very humourous and with a great knowledge and love of the land which was reflected in his tour.

Do you have any advice for potential travellers?
Remember to take a sleeping bag - a good quality one, as it does get pretty cold at nights sleeping on the Felucca boat.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Take the opportunity to do the extras offered although don't tire yourself out and enjoy the odd cocktail by the heated pool at the Sheraton Hotel by the Nile - mmmm!

  • I'll never forget waking up to the sunrise on the Nile...............

The children had the best fun ever. Unfortunately it mostly took place in hotel swimming pools. I thought I could have saved myself a lot of money and gone to Centerparcs and they wouldn't have noticed the difference, except for the camels and donkeys.

What was the most inspirational moment of your trip?
Cairo museum. Still filthy, dusty and largely unlabelled but untterley unique and fantastic, especially "the mask". I have to say my youngest child was totally switched on the whole time we were there.
What did you think of your group leader?
Good with the children, very affable and knew his history.
Do you have any advice for potential travellers?

Take an inhaler if you have ever needed one in your whole life. You will need one in Cairo. The Pyramids are only visible close up as the smog is so bad. Even Luxor has pollution.

The hotel in Cairo has a terrible insect problem - take repellent.

Don't bother taking trainers. Why do Exodus holidays alreays recommend them when 1 pair of sandals do the job.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
It was almost impossible to see the real Egypt. The hotel in Cairo was like a prison compound in the middle of nowhere. Because they knew this water cost £15 EP a bottle (£3 EP from ordinary shops in Luxor). The hotel in El Gouna was cut off from normal Egypt as it is an "exclusive" tourist town. I'd have preferred a decent hotel in Hurgada with the chance of a wander round. There was no opportunity to visit ordinary shops for cotton goods etc. Our tour guide cut short the Cairo museum visit to take us to a jewellery shop (there was nothing else around) and seemed to know the staff a bit too well. I travelled to Borneo on an Exodus hol in Aug 09 and the coral was fabulous. It is dead, dying and deep in the red sea  so we couldn't get very enthusiastic. I have been on 3 Exodus family holidays and this was the least successful but the children have a different opinion.
