Cross-country Skiing: Italian Alps

Set in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, the Valley of Cogne is considered the unrivaled 'queen' of cross-country skiing. Each year the renowned ski marathon Marcia Gran Paradiso, as well as other world-class competitions, take place in this area. There are over 80km of well-groomed cross-country skiing trails, winding their way through woods, streams and over frozen lakes, offering excellent variety of terrain for a week of guided skiing. Our base for the week is the family-run hotel La Barme, situated in the tiny hamlet of Valnontey, 2km south of Cogne. This comfortable hotel is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, making it an idyllic base for an excellent cross-country skiing week. The loipe trails begin right outside the hotel's door, giving convenient access both up and down the valley, where you may even spot the elusive Alpine ibex and chamois.
