Winter Activity Holidays in Austria

Austria has long established itself as a top destination for winter sports, with snow-capped peaks, delicious food and great hospitality. Cafes, restaurants and bars all provide a warm welcome and refreshments such as some mouth-watering cakes and strudels. The local communities preserve many of the old traditions - prize-winning Austrian cheeses are made in the mountains, regional cuisine is served everywhere, and traditional Austrian dress is often worn.

Although mainly known for downhill skiing, Austria also boasts some of the best cross-country skiing areas in Europe, with over 4000km of loipes in the Tyrol alone! The beautiful landscapes surrounding picture postcard villages are also an ideal setting to enjoy days of snowshoeing and winter walking.

The locations of our winter trips in Austria are above 1000m, and at this height snow can lie from December to mid-March, with fresh snowfalls at any time. Daytime temperatures from December to February are generally around -5°C, though they can fall as low as -15°C. For those who prefer warmer climes March and April can reach temperatures above +10°, perfect for a lunchtime break and to enjoy a picnic in the sun.
